When you talk with the tractor and implement manufacturing industry, they’ll talk about the importance of technology in the next generation of equipment. But how much of that is pushed by the industry, and how much is nothing more than an arms race for individual farmers?

Lance Dever with Central Machinery Sales in Pasco said many of those who have been farming for decades don’t appreciate how impactful the latest technology can be on day-to-day operations. However, he said the younger generation, those between 25-35, understand the importuning of staying up to date on the latest advancements.

“If you can show them how that works, and they have a way they think they can use that, they’ll go up to their bosses and they’re pushing to get that kind of technology.”

Dever added it his many years of working in the Ag industry, he’s seen firsthand those that don’t embrace technology, or worse fight it, are eventually left behind, and fail.
