"What we're really trying to do here is to find, based on the inputs, the discovery goals that will take us to that next era."

Part of what Hutchins, said will shape the U.S. agricultural innovation agenda through the recently announced strategic directional vision for research. He said this vision, along with a user dashboard, creates the ability for the private and public sector to synergize ag research efforts.

"So that we're not just doing the signings and doing the research but we're really looking to have an outcome from that science and research that's in alignment with the goals of the AG agenda."

Hutchins added his Ag innovation strategy is national, and not just USDA in scope. As matters such as gene editing and micro-biomes  become a great part of agriculture over the next 30 years.
