The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said a wolf killed a three-year old cow in the Foster Gulch area of Baker County last weekend. A ranch manger told ODFW the 1,100 pound cow was found injured on the morning of Saturday January 16th, on public land adjacent to a large private rangeland pasture. Since the cow could not get up or walk, the manager euthanized the animal.

The carcass was examined by the manager and photos were taken. Then the carcass was buried, so predators would not be attracted to the area. ODFW said after looking at the photos they determined a wolf was responsible for the attack.

Investigators said it appears a wolf from the Cornucopia pack attacked the cow sometime late on Friday January 15th or early January 16th. ODFW added under the state’s Wolf Plan, this death is not considered a depredation.
