On Wednesday, the Senate Commerce Committee voted to move the nomination of Pete Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary on to the full Senate for a vote. At Wednesday’s hearing Washington Senator Maria Cantwell noted that if confirmed, she will call on Buttigieg and President Biden to prioritize COVID-19 vaccines for workers helping to move food products.

“We are now seeing international news, national news, and local news about the challenges we are facing with moving food, and I want to make sure that our transportation infrastructure workers are prioritized to get those vaccines, and we can continue to move product through the United States.”

The Commerce Committee approved Buttigieg on a bipartisan 21-3 vote.
