U.S. Forest Service Incident Management Teams have a wealth of experience in response to natural disasters. And as the Forest Service's Gordy Sachs points out, that experience has come in to play as a part of the national COVID vaccine campaign in staffing vaccination centers across the country.

"With the vaccine distribution, we're helping a few states with planning for broader vaccine distribution throughout their state," Sachs said. "But we're also providing boots on the ground in administering vaccines in several states as part of the Community Vaccination Center being coordinated by FEMA."

Multiple Forest Service Incident Management teams and personnel are part of this current effort in effect since earlier this month. Sachs added, this is just the latest agency response to the pandemic, since the initial efforts last spring.

"The initial work that our folks were doing involved organizing and helping the states organize for the response, and then that expanded in to actual strategic planning with the states for an effective response."
