The annual “What’s in Your Fruit Bowl” initiative, put on by Pear Bureau Northwest, gets underway in March. PBNW’s Kathy Stephenson said they started the promotion three years ago, as a way to highlight healthy eating.

“There’s a lot of things in nutrition counseling that talk about creating healthy habits and having a fruit bowl where family can just walk by and grab as opposed to hiding it in the fridge or hidden on the counter.”

Stephenson said during “What’s in Your Fruit Bowl”, they are partnering with the National Mango Board, California Avocado Commission, California Raisins Marketing Board; and for the first time, Sunkist Growers.

“We are all looking for ways to support our immunity especially when we’re at home. The idea of keeping that fruit bowl well stocked and right in front of the family is a great way to build immunity and keep healthy foods in front of everyone.”

The campaign encourages consumers of fruit to take photos of their own fruit bowls and post them to social media with the hashtag, #WhatsInYourFruitBowl, and they could take part in a sweepstakes. Stephenson added that people might be more inclined to eat healthy if they see their friends and family posting pictures of fruit on social media.
