When looking back on 2020, certain things will jump to your mind: coronavirus, toilet paper shortages and the murder hornets. Well, that last one, the Asian Giant hornet is the focus of a documentary that was released on Discovery+ last month. The 90 minute film, “Attack of the Murder Hornets” takes a behind the scenes look at the Washington state Department of Agriculture’s efforts to find and trap the invasive species last spring.

“But it really highlights the work that the public and others in the community, especially the bee keepers were doing, working together to detect Asian Giant Hornet," noted Karla Salp with the WSDA. "And for me, that’s maybe one of the best parts of the film, that it highlights yes, government and private individuals can work together toward a common goal and that really comes through in the film.”

Salp added the Discovery Film crew had great equipment that allowed WSDA crews a unique perspective on where the hornet lives and its actions. Department officials added the film is an opportunity to educated people in an entertaining way about the work being done to prevent Asian giant hornets from establishing the pacific Northwest.
