Over 242,000 metric tons of U.S. beef has been exported to Japan between January 1st, 2020 and early March 2021. Kent Bacus of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association said not only is that a significant increase considering the trade impediments cause by the pandemic it's an indication of the success of global marketing efforts over the last year.

"We've seen our sales continue to grow in Japan, in Korea, and with more and more consumers making online purchases and having to cook from home. We've really tried to dial in our messaging to teach them how to maximize that beef eating experience at home. And because of that, we really haven't seen some of the losses that other proteins and other countries had seen."

Bacus added that U.S. beef exporters worked with overseas supply chain entities to ensure product delivery and trouble shoot any issues that arose.
