Tyson Foods held a free, onsite COVID-19 vaccination event Thursday, encouraging workers at their Pasco beef plant to get immunized. Prior to Thursday’s event, only 100 of the 1,400 employees at the plant had been vaccinated, and company officials were hoping to use the day to encourage hundreds more to get the shot. Company officials say at this point, more than 26,000 U.S. employees have received a COVID-19 vaccination at one of 71 events at Tyson facilities or through an external source.

“We’re pleased to offer our team members convenient access to the COVID-19 vaccine, and are committed to a long-term strategy that ensures any team member who wants a vaccine will receive one,” said David Tobias, HR manager at Tyson Foods’ Pasco facility. “We’re focused on educating and encouraging our team members to be vaccinated and we appreciate the state of Washington recognizing the essential role they play in feeding our communities.”

Tyson Foods will continue to offer vaccine access for Pasco team members following Thursday’s event. In addition to offering free, onsite vaccinations, the company recently announced it will compensate workers for up to four hours of regular pay if they are vaccinated outside of their normal shift or through an external source.
