When it comes to the 2021 sugarbeet crop, USDA metorologist Brad Rippey says plantings nationwide are off on the right foot.

"We're off to a pretty quick start especially in Michigan and Idaho. Overall, national progress 17% of the sugarbeets planted by April 11th. Five-year average is 7%, last year at this time 9%. Almost half of the sugar beets in the ground in Idaho at 48% and Michigan at 46%."

When it comes to the Red River Valley, Rippey said that area saw a little bit of rain at the southern end of the sugarbeet growing area, holding back planting a bit this week. And still 1% planted in Minnesota by April 11th 5% in North Dakota, which is fairly close to the five year average.
