"Glad to be celebrating with an announcement of almost $500 million dollars of critical investment in water and sewer infrastructure helping more than 45 states."

Most of the investments, Maxon noted, will go to modernize rural drinking and waste water infrastructure. While infrastructure investments are also being made in renewable energy, rural electricity, and bio fuels.

"USDA Rural Development is in a unique position to make climate-smart investments in rural infrastructure to help America build back better and stronger," Maxon added. "We're celebrating Earth Day to highlight the many ways that USDA is expanding access to safe water to renewable energy, to bio-based products to benefit rural residents, and businesses, and communities."
