Chumrau: Virtual Meetings Have Provided Benefits During Pandemic

While more and more of the country is opening up and trying to return to normal, for many in the Ag community that process can be a slow one. One example is the return to trade missions, whether hosting or traveling. While COVID-19 case counts may be improving in the United States, that is not the situation in every country, keeping international travel challenging in some cases.

Casey Chumrau, Executive Director of the Idaho Wheat Commission said right now, it does not look like trade mission teams will visit the Gem State anytime soon. And while that is disappointing, she noted the IWC will continue to work to ensure market access and growth for Idaho wheat growers.

“We will continue with our virtual trade missions.  Of course is does not replace that in person interface and the ability to shake hands and really connect over dinner.  But we do see a lot of benefits, from the fact that we’re reaching a lot more people within these companies that would necessarily be able to bring that many people from their one company to the United States.”

Chumrau noted she and the Idaho Wheat Commission look forward to hosting in person trade missions as soon as possible.
