Bullock Takes Over At Washington FFA

Jason Bullock, the new Executive Director of the Washington FFA, took over the organization during a unique time, between the country facing the coronavirus pandemic, and personally, while he was working on wrapping up his doctoral degree. Despite those challenges, the North Carolina native said his passion for FFA drew him out to the Northwest. He said one of the many reasons he loves FFA is that is allows students to expand their horizons in a variety of ways.

“Teaching them about agriculture and the skill development that also takes place withint FFA.  So, I was fortunate to be able to move to the west coast and come to Washington.  I arrived on January 4^th of this year after a 5 ½ day journey across the nation.”

Bullock said agriculture advocacy is very important for him, not only the national level, but here in Washington where so many different crops are grown.

“Teach agriculture to those students, and where their food comes from, and how agriculture works.  I think there’s a lot of misinformation that can be shared through public media, so really teaching students and providing those opportunities for them to develop their own agriculture literacy and also teaching them and showing them how to be an advocate for agriculture.”

He said that's important, regardless how a student is involved in agriculture moving forward; whether that be environmental/natural resources, horticulture, animal science across the whole spectrum of the ag industry.
