Dairy West recently took a big step in the industry’s effort to become carbon neutral by 2050 by adding Marissa Watson as the first vice president of sustainability. Watson said days into her new role, she’s trying to understand what dairy farmers across Idaho are already doing and the support they need.

“Because I think there are some practices that dairy farmers are already implementing and we're trying to figure out how to share those stories.”

Watson comes to Dairy West from the University of Vermont where she served as the school’s sustainability manager for dining. She added the topic of sustainability is a loaded one with varying interpretations of what sustainability should look like.

"I'm only a week into this job and I've spent the last couple of days traveling through the Cache Valley and Southern Idaho trying to understand what farmers are already doing.”

"We are thrilled that someone of Marissa's caliber is joining our growing Dairy West team," CEO Karianne Fallow said. "Dairy farmers, who are dedicated stewards of our land and animals, continue to make great strides toward reducing their carbon footprint, because we know the future of a healthy planet depends upon how we care for its resources. Marissa's expertise will accelerate our progress in that direction."
