"The concept of MyPlate is just this visualization of how much of the different five food groups to have on your plate and in your beverage."

And Deputy Under Secretary Stacy Dean says it becomes important to go beyond that to make the MyPlate symbol what she calls, "alive" through various resources consumers can use in their daily lives.

"There's a website with all kinds of information, recipes, quizzes, ways for you to set goals for yourself. But also an app for your phone."

The MyPlate website is www.MyPlate.gov The app, called Start Simple with MyPlate can be downloaded from various app stores.

"It's just a wealth of information and what I really like about it is it's about just making it really actionable for folks with simple easy bits of information."
