USDA meteorologist, Brad Rippey, says drought will continue to intensify up and down the West.

"That only part of the West looking to get any meaningful precipitation in the next five to seven days will be parts of the Southwest and Southern Rockies. That will be in the form of monsoon related showers. Sometimes the showers end up being more lightning than rain."

Rippey added the current weather pattern will only made a bad situation worse.

"Combine that with excessive heat and things are just going to be getting worse and worse from the standpoint of water supply, and wildfire potential, as you move west of the Rockies."

Rippey continued the drought continues to have its impact on small grains across the region.

"We continue to see the lowest crop conditions of the century since going back to 2000 for some of the Northern key crops like spring wheat and barley."
