A newly announced aspect of the USDA's pandemic assistance for producers initiative, is focused on livestock and poultry producers.

"These producers who had to euthanize or otherwise dispose of animals because slaughter capacity just wasn't there because of the pandemic," said FSA Administrator Zach Ducheneaux.

Incurred financial losses as well as cost associated with herd and flock depopulation and disposal. Ducheneaux said under the Pandemic Livestock Indemnity Program, "producers that meet the qualifications will be paid based on 80% of the fair market value of their livestock and poultry, and for the cost of depopulation and disposal of the animal based on a single payment rate per head.
