Late last week, the EPA announced it had reached settlements with several Yakima Valley cold storage facilities. The settlements come from alleged civil chemical accident prevention and preparedness violations with three separate companies operating eight cold storage facilities.

Under the agreement, Stadelman Fruit LLC has agreed to pay $238,875 for violations at:

  • 1st Avenue, Zillah
  • Cheyne Road, Zillah
  • Bella Terra Road, Zillah                   
  • West Northstone Parkway, Zillah

Hollingbery and Sons, Inc. will pay at $21,600 penalty for violations at their North 1st Ave. facility in Yakima.

While Hollingbery CA and Cold Storage has agreed to pay $96,600 for violations at their three Yakima facilities.

All involved facilities use Anhydrous Ammonia for Refrigerated Cold Storage. 

EPA says the settlements are part of the Agency’s nationwide effort to protect communities and reduce the the accidental release at industrial and chemical facilities.
