The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife says a calf found dead in the Meacham area of Umatilla County last week was killed by nearby wolves. ODFW crews were called to a 4,000-acre forested private-land pasture Wednesday morning where a 300 pound calf had been discovered. Investigators said the carcass was mostly intact, but both hind legs and part of the right side has been consumed. Tooth scrapes, punctures near the spine and bite marks over the body indicate the calf had been attacked by a predator.

ODFW said the size, number, location and severity of the wounds were consistent with wolf attacks. Last week’s depredation has been attributed to the OR30 Wolves.
