Last week, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife crews were called an injured six month old calf found on forested public land in the Indian Lake area of Union County. The owner of the 450 pound calf found the animal on the morning of Tuesday August 10th and it was soon euthanized. The carcass was taken to an ODFW office where investigators found wounds on both rear legs as well as the left shoulder. ODFW estimates the injuries occurred 7-14 days earlier.

Because of the number of wounds, tooth scrapes and the depth of the injuries, ODFW determined the calf had been attacked by wolves. The depredation has been attributed to the Ukiah Pack.

After a difficult July, this is the 1st confirmed depredation in August.
