Producers looking to become or stay certified in Organic production have additional costs to do so. But the USDA is trying to help address some of those costs. That includes funding for application and inspection fees, travel expenses for inspectors, and other organic certification costs. The FSA's J. Latrice Hill said those expenses have deterred some producers from getting organic certification.

"A program that would help those who want to be organically certified by helping cover a few of those expenses.]
Hill added producers who incurred some of those expenses during this fiscal year which ends September 30th can apply for the cost share program for now until November 1."

And she noted if everything checks out, "that would be reimbursed for up to 50% of the operation's allowable cost or a maximum of $500."
