NRCS is accepting applications for the Environmental Quality Incentive Program [EQIP] for fiscal year 2022. Assistant Washington Conservationist for Programs, Keith Griswold, said the voluntary program allows local producers to solve problems on private land.

"Landowners come in and tell us about the problem with the resources they have on their property and we go out and see if the program can address that then the participant needs to apply for the program.”

Projects across the Evergreen state are ranked dependent on resource problems and severity, and from there the applications are funded from the top of the list down. Griswold said its best for producers to start the application process sooner, rather than later. He said there are several steps in the application process, with one of the first being the CCC1200 form.

"Also they have to go over to the Farm Service Agency and they need to establish their USDA eligibility.  It’s a requirement for all program participation in USDA."

The application deadline is October 7th. Click Here to apply.

The program EQIP program was authorized by the 1996 Farm Bill, and has been updated under each following Farm Bill.
