Production expectations for several key commodities across the northwest are out as we quickly approach harvest.

According to NASS, Idaho sugarbeet production is forecast at 6.99 million tons, up 2% from 2020 production. Harvested area, at 170,000 acres, is up 1,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 41.1 tons per acre, up 0.7 ton from August 1, 2021, and up 0.6 ton from 2020. Oregon sugarbeet production is forecast at 415,000 tons, up 8% from last year. Harvested area, at 10,300 acres, is up 900 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 40.3 tons per acre, down 3.7 tons from August 1, 2021, and down 0.6 ton from 2020. Washington sugarbeet production is forecast at 91,000 tons, up 6% from 2020 production. Harvested area, at 1,900 acres, is up 100 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 47.8 tons per acre, down 0.3 tons from August 1, 2021, but unchanged from 2020.

Idaho dry edible pea production is forecast at 528,000 cwt, down 38% from 2020 production. Harvested area is forecast at 30,000 acres, down 4,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 1,760 pounds per acre, down 740 pounds from 2020. Washington dry edible pea production is forecast at 816,000 cwt, down 65% from 2020 production. Harvested area is forecast at 68,000 acres, down 10,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 1,200 pounds per acre, down 1,800 pounds from 2020.

Lentils Idaho lentil production is forecast at 184,000 cwt, down 49% from 2020 production. Harvested area, at 20,000 acres, is down 8,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 920 pounds per acre, down 380 pounds from 2020. Washington lentil production is forecast at 359,000 cwt, down 39% from 2020 production. Harvested area, at 39,000 acres, is down 6,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 920 pounds per acre, down 380 pounds from 2020.

Small chickpeas Idaho small chickpeas production is forecast at 79,000 cwt, down 36% from 2020 production. Harvested area, at 9,900 acres, is up 3,300 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 800 pounds per acre, down 1,070 pounds from 2020. Washington small chickpeas production is forecast at 95,000 cwt, down 66% from 2020 production. Harvested area, at 15,900 acres, is up 1,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 600 pounds per acre, down 1,280 pounds from 2020.

Large chickpeas Idaho large chickpeas production is forecast at 604,000 cwt, down 24% from 2020 production. Harvested area, at 75,500 acres, is up 21,300 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 800 pounds per acre, down 670 pounds from 2020. Washington large chickpeas production is forecast at 580,000 cwt, down 42% from 2020 production. Harvested area, at 82,800 acres, is up 26,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 700 pounds per acre, down 1,050 pounds from 2020

Based on September 1 numbers, production of corn for grain in Idaho is forecast at 21.9 million bushels, down 15% from 2020. Harvested area, at 105,000 acres, is down 25,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 209 bushels per acre, up one bushel from August 1, 2021 and up 10 bushels from 2020. Corn for grain production in Washington is forecast at 16.1 million bushels, down 12% from 2020. Harvested area, at 75,000 acres, is down 5,000 acres from 2020. Yield is expected to be 215 bushels per acre, down 10 bushels from August 1, 2021, and down 13 bushels from 2020.
