Vilsack: We Continue To Look at Trade And Foreign Undersecretary

Efforts continue at the USDA to expand Ag trade opportunities as well as build positions of Ag trade leadership at the federal level. Recently, the USTR Katherine Tai announced the nomination of Elaine Travino to be her office's Chief Agricultural Negotiator. And regarding the position of USDA Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign agricultural affairs:

"We have several candidates that were in, I think, the final process of looking at the candidates that I know," said Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack. "We are looking at people that are well familiar with trade and I think will be able to get the kind of support necessary to get through the confirmation process."

The Secretary did not indicate when a nomination might be announced. But he said he is hopeful something will be announced soon.
