If you are one of the estimated 20,500 producers growing hemp nationwide, watch your mailbox over the next week or so, for the first comprehensive USDA survey of hemp growers and acreage since 1957. Gerald Tillman with NASS said the surveys are going to be mailed out in the coming days to all known hemp producers asking them about such things as planted acreage and planned usage of their hemp  crop.

"Getting the numbers will help build the program and their businesses," Tillman noted.

USDA hemp programs will be run over the Ag marketing service Bill Richmond who says they need good response to this survey.

"To try to best capture the entire national landscape of hemp, to best create programs for the fledgling hemp industry."

USDA plans to release results of this first hemp survey in February.
