FY21 A Good One For Ag Exports
The USDA now has all of the trade numbers from Fiscal Year 2021. As the books closed at the end of September, numbers showed the U.S. exported just over $172 billion worth of Ag products. That's $32.5 billion more than in 2020.
"A good increase and far and away a record," noted USDA economist and trade tracker, Bart Kenner. He said export values up for every major commodity, except tobacco and fruit juice. when looking at some of the bulk commodities:
"Exports of wheat were $7.2 billion, up 15% from fiscal year 20. Corn exports were up 113%. Soy bean exports were up 49%. Cotton was also up 10%."
Meanwhile, last fiscal year, the U.S. bought just over $163 billion worth of Ag products from other countries. Giving U.S. Agriculture a trade surplus of almost $9 billion after 2020's $3.7 billion trade deficit.
