After the extremely dry summer and early fall the Pacific Northwest experienced, the rain that rolled across the area in November was welcomed relief. But, was the month as wet as many thought it was?

In western Oregon and western Washington, large amounts of rain fell, leading to flooding and landslides. According to meteorologist Marilyn Lohmann, some western Washington locations saw over 20” of rain last month. As far as locations east of the Cascades, the rain totals were more modest, but for some locations, November’s rain total was impressive.

“Just over 1” in Central Oregon, 1”-1 ½” up through the foothills of the Blues, and even out into the Washington Basin area like Moses Lake and that area that’s normally fairly dry this time of year did see over 1” of rain which is amazing.  And then on east over to Spokane, they had a little over 2 ½” and Pullman had almost 3 ½”, which sounds like a huge amount for them but they normally for November get over 2”

Lohmann noted that on average, locations east of the Oregon Cascades saw 50%-90% of normal precipitation while locations east of the Washington Cascades reported 100%-120% of average. Lohmann noted while last month many have felt soggy for many in the farming community, that feeling was a bit misleading.
