Washington’s Farm Bureau is under new management. During last month’s annual meeting in Yakima, members selected Rosella Mosby as the new President. The King County farmer said one of her immediate priorities as President, is to reinvigorate the organization at the grassroots level.

“The beautiful thing about Farm Bureau is it’s a membership organization, and that membership gives you a voice and a vote on policy direction and how the organization represents you as a farmer or rancher in Washington state.  And I think there’s incredible value there.”

Mosby added that one of the many strengths of Farm Bureau is how it allowed her to develop a great statewide network.

“When I have a question about something that I don’t know the answer to, I can call my friend who has a dairy a mile and a half from the Canadian border in Lynden, and ask him a question and get an answer from the guy who is actually doing that work.  And I think when we know a little bit about what each other does it makes us better advocates for the industry as a whole.”

Mosby said it will be important for the Washington farm community to speak up and advocate for itself, with producers facing so many hurdles today. And she added, whether a member or not, Mosby wants everyone across the state to see and understand the value of Farm Bureau.

“Whether you’re a member or not and you’re in agriculture you are benefiting from the work of Farm Bureau.”
