The Spokane Ag Show is a little over a month away and organizers are asking for "Excellence in Agriculture" nominees. Spokane Ag Show Director Melisa Paul said nominees should be industry professionals or those who have had an impact on farm country in the Evergreen state. She noted four criteria will be considered: innovation in agriculture, economic and environmental stewardship contribution to agriculture, positive impact on agriculture, and industry awareness and outreach.

"That could be youth. Maybe, FFA groups making big impacts or strides through some of their projects that they do. Or it can be individual projects."

Awards will be presented during show's opening session on Tuesday, February 1st, at the Spokane Arena.

Paul added that those in Washington's Ag industry play a huge role in the state's economy. Washington, she noted, is the biggest trade state in the U.S., with agriculture its second-largest industry.

"It's important to recognize the work that people do. There is a lot of grit and lifetime commitment in many of these people. It's important to stop and take a second to do that because we don't often do that anymore."

The window to submit a deserving individual closes on Friday, December 24th. To learn more or to submit a nomination, visit the Spokane Ag Show's Website.
