USDA Warning Of New Cases Of Bird Flu

For poultry producers, backyard and commercial, "...if you have not recently reviewed your biosecurity plan, now is a really good time to do that," noted Dr. Rosemary Sifford with APHIS.

That' warning coming as USDA has confirmed some more wild birds carrying the highly pathogenic avian influenza. On Friday, January 14^th, the Department detected one wild duck with the virus in South Carolina. Then on Tuesday, January 18^th, a second bird was confirmed with avian influenza, as well as a bird in North Carolina. Sifford said poultry owners cannot take biosecurity lightly.

"Try to make sure that you, don't have any gaps that might inadvertently, um, allow someone to bring virus into your facility."

Which she noted could be a huge problem for U.S. producers, possibly many others as well.
