The port of Oakland will soon host what is being called a pop-up site to help alleviate congestion and facilitate increased shipping of Ag goods from that facility to markets overseas. And while this is the first such project on the west coast, as White House Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force Port Envoy John Pocari said it's just the beginning.

"We previously announced multiple sites in Georgia; more to follow.  These help both imports and exports.  And for agricultural exports some of these pop-up sites in Georgia, for example, are thundered of miles closer to the point of origin, making it that much easier to export the goods."

Pocari said he believes that the Port of Oakland pop-up site will help in restoring ocean carrier service to that facility.

"They're concentrating on fewer ports and the most lucrative service.  That's particularly true for the Port of Oakland, which lost some far-east and south east Asian service that we hope to bring back."
