In an effort to showcase the diverse group of people involved in the statewide wine industry, the Washington State Wine Commission has launched a new program called Breaking Ground. The bilingual ambassador program follows 14 Washington-based farmers, with each one submitting a single story that'll be published on-line each month now through November, on the Commission's Website.

"Some of the stories they submit might be videos," said Wine Commission Digital Programs Manager Bretty Rawson. "Some of them might be photo essays, or visual driven stuff. Some of them might just be text-based stories. So, it'll really depend on who the farmer is, and what they do in the vines."

The first year of Breaking Ground Rawson noted features a wide range of industry workers, including a vineyard manager, a foreman, a Community Health Worker, a student conducting research and an operations specialist who keeps vineyard workers safe. Rawson said the program tries to connect consumers with the workers who make Washington wine a possibility.

"I think we hope to impact and continue to shift the narrative, so people who reach for that glass of wine, they have a little bit of understanding of how many hands went into making that wine and what went went into making that wine."

In-depth interviews with each farmer ambassador are now live on-line. Click Here to learn more.
