Wheat producers in Idaho, expect to plant 1.27 million acres of wheat this year, up 3% from 2021. Winter wheat acres planted are estimated at 790,000 acres, up 11% from last year. Planted acres of Durum wheat in Idaho are estimated at 5,000 acres for 2022, down 29% from the previous year. Spring wheat planted acres excluding Durum, are expected to total 470,000 acres, down 8 percent from last year.

For Oregon, total acres planted are estimated at 730,000 acres for 2022, up 1% year over year.

Washington is estimated to have 2.34 million total acres planted to wheat in 2022, up slightly from last year. Winter wheat planted acres are expected to total 1.85 million acres for this year, up 6% from 2021. Spring wheat area planted are estimated at 490,000 acres, down 16% from last year. Nationally, all planted wheat acres are expected to total 47.4 million acres, up 1% from 2021. Winter wheat acres are estimated at 34.2 million acres, up 2% from 2021. Durum wheat planted acres in the United States for 2022 are estimated at 1.92 million acres, up 17% from the previous year. All other spring wheat is estimated at 11.2 million planted acres, down 2 percent from 2021.

Barley planted area in Idaho for 2022 are estimated at 510,000 acres, down 2% from 2021. Oregon barley growers are expected to seed 35,000 acres, down 5% from last year. In Washington, acres planted to barley are estimated at 85,000 acres, up 2% from the previous year. Total barley planted acres in the United States is estimated at 2.94 million acres for 2022, up 11% from 2021.

Corn planted area in Idaho are expected to total 350,000 acres for 2022, down 8% percent from last year. Oregon is estimated to plant 90,000 acres, down 5% from 2021. Washington corn growers are expected to plant 140,000 acres this year, down 15% from the previous year. Total acres of corn planted in the United States are expected to total 89.5 million acres, down 4% from last year.

All hay area expected to be harvested in Idaho are estimated at 1.26 million acres, up 2% from 2021. In Oregon, all acres to be harvested for hay are estimated at 900,000 acres, up 1% from a year ago. All hay harvested area in Washington is expected to be 720,000 acres up 1% from last year. Nationally, total area harvested for hay is estimated at 50.3 million acres, down 1% from the previous year.
