March came in Tuesday not like a lion, not like a lamb, but a little of both, if you ask meteorologist Marilyn Lohmann. She noted while temperatures were fairly mild across the region, many corners of the Pacific Northwest saw showers early Tuesday.

Will those showers stick around as the week continues?

Lohmann said the area may see on-again-off-again showers through Thursday, but will dry out over the weekend.  But she said the PNW may see additional showers role into the area early next week.

“With this northerly flow out ahead in the coming weeks, sometimes those northerly flows are a bit dryer and it does bring those cooler temperatures.  But, it does look like a few systems will drop in, it’s a matter of how much moisture they can bring us is still a little bit unknown."

Lohmann noted temperatures will get a little cooler into next week, and those brisk temps will most likely stick around during much of March.

“Even though I think the first couple of weeks will be the coldest and then we’ll start transitioning.  Still overall a cooler than normal month.  And while a lot of people are hoping for more spring showers and kind of give those precipitation numbers a boost.  Even the mountain snow pack is kind of holding, even with the rain on it, over the last few days its just kind of holding steady, so hopefully we can add to that and help those long term irrigators throughout the summer.”

Does Lohmann expect the drought conditions to improve as we get ready to say goodbye to winter in less than three weeks?
