Mexico, Canada and the U.S. are scheduled to resume NAFTA talks later this month.  And the reading of the tea leaves varies greatly, depending on with whom you speak.  Some fear the Trump Administration will walk away from the 25 year old trade deal.  However, many economics have come out saying they are confident a deal can and will be reached.

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue recently said while he has no inside knowledge, he is confident the President will do what’s best for the nation’s economy and people.

"He’s a tough negotiator, and I think he wants a good deal for America as I do.  He’s got a big wide economy to look after, but we are whispering in his ear every week about how important NAFTA is to American agriculture.”

Many commodity groups have stressed the importance of NAFTA moving forward, but other industries, such as automotive have not been happy with the trade deal.  NAFTA talks are scheduled to continue in Montreal January 29th.
